What exactly is Badam ki Jali?
An almond lattice cookie from the Nawaiti tradition of Hyderabad: ground almonds and sugar (with egg white, milk and rose water in the original recipe) kneaded into a dough, cut into lattice shapes and baked until delicately crisp — khasta. The “jali” — net or lattice — is the perforated, lace-like pattern of the piece itself. A warqi jali is two layers with silver leaf between; a simple jali is one layer.
Is it eggless, gluten-free or organic?
We offer organic, eggless and gluten-free options — tell us when you order. The original recipe used egg white; the egg peosi, as its name says, is made with eggs. Ashrafi is almonds, sugar and saffron.
How long does it keep?
Jali and Ashrafi are best eaten within about a week: keep them in their wrapping in an airtight box, cool and dry. Peosi and lauz are softer and should be eaten sooner. Everything is made fresh after your order is received.
How much should I order for a wedding or Eid?
Trays are usually built around the number of guests and the moment — the Sanchak tray, favours for guests, or dessert after the meal. Share your guest count and date and we will suggest a mix of large warqi showpieces, medium jali, Ashrafi coins, paan and stars-and-crescents.
Can you make custom shapes, names or decorations?
Yes — almond tablets with a name or date, ladybugs and samosas for children, almond flowers and fruit shapes, and trays arranged for the occasion. Custom pieces need more time, so please order early.
